Biography
Clas’ involvement in music started in Montreal West High School, where he learned to play the clarinet and joined the school band. With his own persistence, the influence of several music teachers and a home atmosphere rich in classical music, he received a sound grounding in the basics of his instrument. Later, in the 1970’s he bought a tenor sax and from then on his music of choice was jazz.

In New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Clas formed a quintet, Le Jassband, which became a bit of a legend in the area. He was also one of the founders of the New Glasgow Riverfront Jazz Festival in 1995.

Shortly after arriving in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, he formed a trio, with Tim Worthington and Derek Pelley. Drummer, Jordi Comstock, joined the trio in 2004, making it a quartet.

Since 2002 the Clas Larsson Trio and then the Quartet have been playing frequently in clubs and for private parties, often with Katrein on vocals, a great vocalist, who now has moved to Alberta. However, new vocalists will be filling the space!

Two CD’s have been recorded - Studio Session, with the Trio in 2004 and Jazz at the Opera House, with the Quartet in 2005).These discs were recorded “live off the floor”, at Redfish Audio in Lunenburg and have a mixture of instrumentals and vocals by Katrein. The CD’s are available at all gigs, as well as several retailers.
